New Year’s Resolutions + A Reading Challenge

New Year’s Resolutions + A Reading Challenge

I’m not sure what happens to me the day after Christmas, but my brain immediately goes into goal-setting mode. The goals that pop up in my head are usually small things (i.e. clean out the garage, paint that door that has needed to be painted for almost a year, organize the kitchen, etc.) and I’m not super great at setting larger, further into the future goals. I don’t know about you, but I get excited about goals for the new year. I can also sometimes be a little crazy about them. I’ve been doing some research and have found a few things that I hope will help me balance out my goal-setting (present and future) and to help me not be such a perfectionist about reaching those goals. I’m posting them here in hopes these resources might help you as well. I will also be posting some of my specific goals here in the next week or so.

Before checking out the resources below, please read this post by The Lazy Genius. The Lazy Genius is truly a genius and I am so thankful for her tips and reminders. In this post she talks about how goal-setting is often an attempt to mask deeper issues that we are avoiding. I KNOW for a fact that I do this and I’m so thankful that she posted this as a reminder to not hide beneath busyness and to-do lists.

Emily Ley’s Home Base Binder

Emily Ley’s Planners and Organizational Tools: Emily Ley’s motto is “grace not perfection.” That is something I definitely need to hear often.I get a million and one ideas in my head and then start getting anxious about them. Getting them out of my head and onto paper helps me a ton, but I also need to be reminded that I am no less a person if I don’t meet my goals. Emily’s resources are wonderful and I highly recommend them. I personally love her Home Base Binder, her Simplified Planner, and the Dapperdesk Planner (similar to the Simplified Planner, but not quite as flashy). This year I’m using her Home Base Binder (includes templates for meal planning, financial planning, home project goals, and contact information) along with Lara Casey’s Powersheets (information below).

Powersheets by Lara Casey

Powersheets by Lara Casey: I just discovered Powersheets and have started using them this week. I am already loving them as they are helping me to be intentional about the goals I set and also work through some of those underlying issues I avoid by keeping busy. Goal-setting is not bad in and of itself, but I often turn it into something from which I attempt to find value and worth. Oh, and as I mentioned above, I put these sheets in my Home Base Binder from Emily Ley and use the two resources together.

2016 Reading Challenge by Popsugar: Along with my other yearly goals, I like to set a reading goal as well. Instead of just setting a goal for a certain number of books this year, I’m using Popsugar’s 2016 Reading Challenge to try and read a variety of different books throughout the year.

Transitioning Your Skincare for Fall/Winter
Transitioning Your Skincare for Fall/Winter

September 22, 2024

A while back, I wrote a post about switching up your skincare routine for summer. It can be so very frustrating to think you've gotten your skin figured out only for the season to change and it's almost like you're starting over at ground zero. The truth is that our skin can actually be very different depending on the season. My skin is oilier in the summer and super dry in the winter ...

Double Cleansing
Double Cleansing

June 09, 2024

Have you heard all the buzz about double cleansing? Below you'll find a basic how-to and defense for double cleansing (with Some Call Me Crunchy product suggestions, of course)!

Why double cleanse?

Double Cleansing is a must because having a clean canvas to apply toners and skin nourishing serums is very important. If you spend lots of money on serums and hydrating creams, but your skin isn't clean, those powerhouse products won't actually do very much...
