Today I’ve been thinking a lot about how we try so hard to be people that we are not. I’m including myself in this as well. Sometimes it’s so much easier to pretend we’ve got it all together than to just admit that we screw up and that we’re a mess. As a people pleaser and someone who loves to pretend that I have it all together, I’ve been working hard these past few years to be honest with myself and others. I don’t get it right half the time, but I feel there is a freeing work that is being done in my heart that is slowly allowing me to let go of what I think I should be to find who I truly am. This blog has been sort of a by-product of that journey. The things I talk about here are things that I truly enjoy and in turn want to share them with you.
It’s a beautiful thing to find others who are on this same journey as well. These are the people that are also honest about their own struggles. They tell you openly about the fight with their husband last night, the words they screamed at their child in anger, and the depression they’ve been fighting for years. This song by Over the Rhine has been such an encouragement to me as I’ve struggled to be a person that is open and honest. I’m thankful to have friends to come alongside me in that journey.
All My Favorite People by Over the Rhine
All my favorite people are broken
Believe me
My heart should know
Some prayers are better left unspoken
I just wanna hold you
And let the rest go
All my friends are part saint and part sinner
We lean on each other
Try to rise above
We’re not afraid to admit we’re all still beginners
We’re all late bloomers
When it comes to love
All my favorite people are broken
Believe me
My heart should know
Orphaned believers, skeptical dreamers
Step forward
You can stay right here
You don’t have to go
Is each wound you’ve received
Just a burdensome gift?
It gets so hard to lift
Yourself up off the ground
But the poet says, We must praise the mutilated world
We’re all workin’ the graveyard shift
You might as well sing along
All my favorite people are broken
Believe me
My heart should know
(As for) your tender heart—
This world’s gonna rip it wide open
It ain’t gonna be pretty
But you’re not alone
‘Cause all my favorite people are broken
Believe me
My heart should know
Orphaned believers, skeptical dreamers
You’re welcome
Yeah, you’re safe right here
You don’t have to go
‘Cause all my favorite people are broken
Believe me
I should know
Some prayers are better left unspoken
I just wanna hold you
And let the rest go

...Have you heard all the buzz about double cleansing? Below you'll find a basic how-to and defense for double cleansing (with Some Call Me Crunchy product suggestions, of course)!
Why double cleanse?
Double Cleansing is a must because having a clean canvas to apply toners and skin nourishing serums is very important. If you spend lots of money on serums and hydrating creams, but your skin isn't clean, those powerhouse products won't actually do very much...
