Carry On by Rainbow Rowell

Carry On by Rainbow Rowell

Simon Snow is the Chosen One, even though most of the time he can’t even seem to get is wand to work properly. He is pretty efficient at drawing his magical sword, but when he does all of his power seems to come out at once in a sort of explosion. At Watford, the magical school for mages, Simon is surviving his classes with a little help from his friend Penelope. She is everything he isn’t: born to a mage family, extremely intelligent, witty, and always has a plan.  Simon tends to roam through his days concentrating on finding the Insidious Humdrum who is his sworn enemy and wants to destroy the magical world.  Consequently, the Humdrum looks exactly like Simon when he first started at Watford.  Now in his seventh year, Simon must figure out a way to get rid of the Humdrum and save the world of mages. The only problem is that his vampire roommate and worst enemy, Baz, always seems to get in the way.

My Thoughts:

If you followed my book reviews over at my previous blog, fictionfinders, then you know that I have a bit of an obsession with Rainbow Rowell.  Her books genuinely bring warmth to my heart and I want to read them over and over again (links for my reviews for her other books will be posted below).  While this book was a little different (this is her first shot at a fantasy novel), I fell in love with it none the less. My above synopsis probably sounds like a Harry Potter redo, but I promise it’s not. Her magical tale is unique and has Rainbow Rowell’s imprint all over it.

Other Rainbow Rowell Books:

Landline adult

Attachments adult

Fangirl* young adult

Eleanor and Park young adult

*The story of Carry On started in Rowell’s novel Fangirl. In Fangirl, the main character is a huge fan of books and writes fan fiction.  Her fan fiction story is the story of Simon, Penelope, and Baz at their magical school.  Rowell was compelled by these characters and decided to finish their story in Carry On.

Transitioning Your Skincare for Fall/Winter
Transitioning Your Skincare for Fall/Winter

November 17, 2023

A while back, I wrote a post about switching up your skincare routine for summer. It can be so very frustrating to think you've gotten your skin figured out only for the season to change and it's almost like you're starting over at ground zero. The truth is that our skin can actually be very different depending on the season. My skin is oilier in the summer and super dry in the winter ...
