Over the past year I have started using essential oils and have spent some time learning about them as well. Lavender is by far my favorite and I use it almost every day. I diffuse it most nights, use it when baking, for bug bites and migraines, and for my daughter’s cradle cap (just to name a few). I’ve also been reading over the past several years about the importance of magnesium. Many people have magnesium deficiencies that they are not aware of. Because I have a history of migraines, one of many things caused by a magnesium deficiency, I try to make sure I get enough of it daily. One way to do that is to drink Natural Calm. This supplement is great, but it doesn’t taste very good. Another way is to buy magnesium oil and rub it into your skin. I like this method a little better but the oil is a little sticky. I really wanted to be able to use the oil and so I set out on a mission to find a way to mix it with some other oils and make a type of body butter. I successfully found a recipe over at The Paleo Mama. I adapted mine a little because I wanted a thicker recipe that I could use as a foot rub. I like to rub it on my feet at night and then put socks on to help lock in the moisture. You could also use this as a regular body butter, but I do recommend putting in on directly after a shower so that your skin will absorb the oils better. I used lavender and vetiver essential oils, which along with magnesium, are known for their calming effects.
