I’ve pretty much loved coffee since I was a teenager, but I never would have put myself into the “coffee snob” category. That is until now. Over the past year or so, I’ve been reading about good coffee and the whole coffee making process and have landed on a method that I am now addicted to. I went from buying speciality coffees multiple times a week to pretty much only drinking coffee from home. It’s that good. This is what I do…
What you need:
- French Press (make sure you get a glass one, heating plastic is something you definitely want to avoid)
- Coffee grinder
- Kettle (I have this one because it looks pretty, but any stove top or electric kettle would work).
- Counter Culture Coffee (Forty Six is my favorite of their blends and you can find it on sale at many Whole Foods and Earth Fare stores)
- Boil water in your kettle.
- While the water is boiling, grind your coffee beans. I have an eight cup french press, and I use about 5-6 Tablespoons of beans. Grind them for about 7 seconds (you’re going for a course grind). Transfer into french press.
- Once the water is ready, pour water over the coffee until the press is about half way full. Stir to mix the coffee with the water. Fill the rest of the french press with water, leaving some some space at the top (about an inch).
- Replace the plunger and wait (do not press the plunger down yet).
- After about 4-5 minutes, slowly press the plunger down (if for some reason it is super hard to press, pull it back up and let a little air in and then try again).
- For best results, transfer the coffee into another container to keep it warm (if you leave in in the press at this point it will continue brewing).

How to drink it:
- Drink it black: Not my preference, but to each his own. 🙂
- Add a little maple syrup and heavy whipping cream: This is probably my favorite way to drink my coffee. So good!
- Make buttered coffee: This great to get your day started and give you an energy boost. I especially like making it this way before a workout.
